Riverside Retail Park

The Riverside Retail Park in Rochdale is set to transform the town with new retail and leisure facilities. Willmott Dixon were appointed by Rochdale Borough Council on the £80 million pound development.

This is just the first phase of development in Rochdale and it will include a retail park with 200,000 square foot of retail space including 24 shops, restaurants and a 6 screen cinema. It  will also include a 520 space car park in the town centre.

Wilmott Dixon asked Hoard-it to provide a hoarding solution for the construction site. They requested plain white hoarding panels with blue steel edges. Site graphics will be added to the panels at a later date.

Hoard-it provided 340LM of hoarding panels for the project. The weather presented several challenges with the impact of snow and ice, along with major road closures. The Hoard-it team were the only sub-contractor who managed to complete the install within the designated time.

The Riverside Retail Park regeneration project is a joint venture between Genr8 and Japanese investor, Kajima, in partnership with Rochdale Borough Council. The development with new retail and entertainment offerings is just one phase of development in the town. It is hoped that it will encourage further investment and that the retail space will attract well known brands.

Wherever possible, Willmott Dixon is focusing on ensuring it uses local contractors for the Riverside Retail Park project. It expects to spend over £20 million with companies across the Greater Manchester region, including steelwork, roofing and cladding. This is the latest in a series of similar developments Willmott Dixon has been involved with to transform towns and cities across the UK.

The Rochdale Development Agency has ambitions plans for the town and is already looking ahead to a potential phase two. There are plans for the second phase which include a hotel and residential housing, in the form of one and two bedroom rental apartments.
