Paradise Circus
The Paradise Circus project in Birmingham is a £700 million infrastructure project that will redevelop a significant portion of the city centre. It will deliver 10 new buildings, 3 new public squares, 1.74 million square feet of office space and 120,000 square feet of retail and leisure spaces. Also included in this development is 370 buy to rent homes in a 49 storey building called the Octogon. Construction of the £110m building began in December 2021 and is expected to be completed in 2025.
The first part of the infrastructure project is the construction of the first building, one Chamberlain Square, on the site of the old Central Library. Carillion won the first stage of the Paradise regeneration project, which covers 17 acres of land in the city.
The redevelopment of Paradise Circus is being undertaken through a joint venture company established in September 2013 between Birmingham City Council and British Telecom Pension Scheme (BTPS), managed by Hermes Real Estate Investment Management Ltd (HREIML). Development company, Argent, will manage the design and delivery of the site works on behalf of the joint venture company, as well as being the development manager for BTPS for the commercial buildings.
Hoard-it were hired by Carillion to work on a challenging installation of a site hoarding solution at Paradise Circus. This was due to the central location, which is surrounded by busy traffic areas and public spaces. The team at Hoard-it made deliveries and installed the timber hoarding panels early in the morning. The Paradise installation includes 950 metres of Hoard-it hoarding panels, in varying colours, for both internal and external sites.
Phase Two of the Paradise project is now underway, with the construction of a new hotel on the south western corner of the site, as well as a fourth office building, Three Chamberlain Square, which is adjacent to the Town Hall.
Paradise is seen as one of the most important developments that the city of Birmingham has seen in a long time. Its vision is to create an urban neighbourhood in the heart of the city that is a thriving hub with events, office space, homes and retail spaces.
