Greystar has appointed McLaren, McAleer & Rushe and Sisk to deliver four key buildings as part of the £600m Bermondsey Project in South London. The project will transform the site of a former biscuit factory into 1,624 new homes for rent, with 338 being social rent homes. The homes will be owned and managed by Square Roots and will play a critical role in addressing the housing crisis in London.
Sisk will construct Building ST, which comprises of two towers up to 36 stories, which will contain 472 to rent homes. McAleer and Rushe will oversee two buildings, which will deliver 359 homes split between market and intermediate rent, and the second building will be a 20 storey tower with 225 homes, along with four storeys of office space. McLaren is responsible for building F, which will offer flexible commercial space on the lower floors and six storeys of residential space with 230 market-rent homes.
Preparation of the site is already underway and the first homes are expected to be ready for occupation in the Autumn of 2025. Hoard-it installed 35 LM of hoarding and a 12 metre Bi-Fold gate as part of the ongoing construction work to protect the site.
Additional features of the Bermondsey Project will include retail, leisure and office space. This will include lounges, workspaces, gyms and office space, as well as private dining rooms, an indoor swimming pool and roof terraces.
Greystar’s vision for the Bermondsey project is focused on more than just providing housing. They want to create a vibrant and sustainable new neighbourhood that ingrates with the existing local community.
All of the buildings are targetting a Home Quality Mark 4 Star for the residential spaces and A BREEAM Excellent certification for the commercial areas. The project will deliver housing across all segments of the market from market-rent homes to social housing, while also creating new opportunities for businesses and the local community.
