St Andrew’s Square

EDINBURGH

St. Andrew’s Square is located within the World Heritage Site of Edinburgh’s New Town. Bowmer and Kirkland were hired to redevelop two buildings, one Grade A and one Grade B Listed, on St. Andrew’s Square.

The project involved the coordination of Edinburgh City Council and Historic Scotland to agree the conversion and reuse of the buildings, as well as the demolition of a number of others. This project was a major element of the regeneration of the east end of St. Andrew Square. It will provide 100,000 square feet of Grade A office accommodation and 70,000 square feet of retail space and apartments, with basement parking.

Bowmer and Kirkland instructed Hoard-it to supply and install a site hoarding solution for this prestige project. The main challenge of this project was to supply a hoarding solution that didn’t require any dig in a busy city centre. Hoard it also had to meet the wind calculations, as per the Temporary Works regulations.

Our on ground gate system was utilised, so that even the vehicle gateposts didn’t have to be dug, in an area that is teaming with services. Bowmer and Kirkland further met the client’s requirements of a corporate identity with the hoarding panels being supplied in Standard Life’s RAL colour.

The timber hoarding panels were pre-painted, so that the entire hoarding solution was ready to go as soon as it was delivered to St. Andrew’s Square, providing a corporate identity from day 1. Standard Life went a step further and requested graphics be added to the project. Hoard-it supplied a unique site graphics solution, and the panels were coated with our anti-graffiti technology.

In addition to the listed buildings in St. Andrew’s Square, two L-shaped buildings with retail units were built and wrapped around the restored buildings. Flexible office accommodation is provided on the upper floors and a central glass roofed atrium gives a break-out space and forms a focus for navigating around the building.
