The University of Warwick have awarded Kier a third construction project to build its new Degree Apprenticeship Centre. Kier are already constructing the £7.2 million Materials Engineering Centre, as well as 1,000 student rooms which includes the £57 million Cryfield Student Village.
The new Degree Apprenticeship Centre will include teaching rooms, a breakout space for students, offices, a laboratory and wind tunnel for transportation aerodynamics. It will also have capacity for 1,000 students on training programmes up to Level 7, master’s degree level.
Kier asked Hoard-it to install a no-dig hoarding solution for the site. We installed 375 metres of Kier branded hoarding panels with three 5 metre vehicle gates. The site presented a number of challenges during installation, due to the ground being muddy and access was tricky, but the Hoard-it team delivered the hoarding solution on time.
The new Degree Apprenticeship Centre will enhance learning for students, and it will provide Warwick university with the facilities to offer more practical based subjects. This will give students the skills the need for a successful career in engineer as they work towards their degree.
The new Student Village at the university will provide 828 new student bedrooms, in a mix of townhouses and clustered blocks. There will also be a new village hall building as part of the site. This will contain offices, a laundrette, post room and student meeting areas, which will take the number of rooms for the University up to 1,000. The goal of this development is to provide a miniature village on campus. Five existing blocks of halls of residence will be demolished to make way for the 12 buildings that make up the new Student Village.
The student accommodation project is part of a wider series of investments being made at the university. The demand for student accommodation across the higher education sector in the UK is increasing year on year, and all three construction projects at Warwick University are designed to meet ongoing requirements.
