Situated on The Strand, Liverpool’s iconic waterfront, Graham Construction have been awarded the contract for a new 16 storey building. The new structure is a joint venture by Patten Properties and Panacea Property Development. The build to rent development will offer residents stunning views across the River Mersey, Albert Dock and the city centre.
Strand House, an existing four storey building that occupies the site, will be demolished before construction begins on the new building. Hoard-it were asked by Graham Construction to install a flexible hoarding solution. Installed in several phases, the Hoard-it team provided 144LM of timber hoarding panels for the construction site.
The new building will have 383 units, featuring 163 one bed apartments, 187 two bed apartments and 45 three bed apartments. The 16 storey building will also feature a private gym and roof terrace, as well as 1,000 square feet of commercial office space on the ground floor.
Designed by Leach Rhodes Walker architects, the new building will have a concrete frame structure, with off-site podded bathrooms and a system façade designed to withstand rough riverside weather conditions. A number of design elements and materials from surrounding waterfront buildings including Mann Island, the Three Graces and One Park West were included in the design to ensure the new development has a positive and integrated contribution to Liverpool’s skyline.
The new building on The Strand is a transition point between historic buildings in the city and modern developments, between the Albert Dock, Liverpool One and the town centre. It was important that the design to tie these areas together. During the proposal phase, feedback from local people was also encouraged as the community was engaged to gather their thoughts in the development.
Patten Properties and Panacea Property Development worked very closely with Liverpool City Council on the project. The development is in a prominent location for the city, and all parties involved were keen to create a memorable structure. The new building on The Strand will set a new modern standard for residential accommodation within the city.
